Sewing Simplicity 8394 Review

Hello everyone! I have been really busy sewing lately ! Lets just dive right into everything that WE (because you love it too right) love about this pattern and MimiG!

I have been following her for a very long time, well probably about 4 years now. I found her on Youtube when I first started sewing. She’s amazing at translating crazy sewing pattern instructions into REAL words lol.  I feel blessed to have found her years ago at the beginning of my sewing journey. It’s crazy how much SHE (and I) have grown in that time. I’m so proud of everything that she’s accomplished so far.

I think Simplicity was extremely smart to see how amazing and innovative MimiG and her tutorials are! They  teamed up with her a few years ago and have been offering patterns + video tutorials. This is something that most pattern companies do NOT do! Actually off the top of my head I can’t think of any other companies that offer this. It’s one thing to READ the instructions , but it’s another thing to actually see what the instructions are asking you to do. Mimi also always has at least one or two alternate ways of doing things which I think is amazing too.
Simplicity 8394 is 1 of the 2 newest patterns released by  Mimi G  for Spring 2017.  I plan to start on the 2nd pattern this weekend which is really cute workout gear! Stay tuned for that review as well!

The skirt was so easy to sew! The video along with the instructions make this very beginner friendly.  I always read the pattern instructions first and because this pattern has a video (link here) I also watched the video first.

Another awesome thing about this pattern it comes in a large range of sizes as well up to 28W.

You can purchase the pattern online at Simplicity’s website here. They are also available at your local Joann or Hobby Lobby  (RIP Hancock Fabrics 🙁  )

The Review

Pattern Description:

Mimi G Style top and skirt sized for Misses 10-18 and Plus sizes 20W-28W. Pattern features crop top with or without shoulder straps and an oversized bow on front bodice. Chic pencil skirt is made with an invisible back zipper and a flattering flounce at hem.

Pattern Sizing:

Misses 10-18 and Plus sizes 20W-28W

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes Very much so. I made the skirt. View B.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

The instructions were extremely easy. The fact that MimiG also offers a video to go along with the pattern is very helpful. I make sure to read the instructions and watch the video before i get started.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I didn’t like that it didn’t taper very much at the legs. I made this adjustment myself.

Fabric Used:

I used a beautiful Cotton Sateen. Link to floral fabric HERE!and the link to Gertie’s lemon fabric is HERE!.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I had to cut out a size 14 for the hips and 10 for the waist. I’m not sure why but i’m NEVER able to just straight up cut out one size. It makes me wonder what sizing Mimi G uses. She’s so curvy but the patterns seem to be made for someone with less curves.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Absolutely!! I love it! iT’S SUPER EASY AND SUPER CUTE!

This pattern was really quick to sew up! I think it’s a great pattern for beginners!
